Simple recipe of joyful life by Dariko

Everyone likes reading the stories about people who managed to shape their lives the way they wanted. They do exactly what they are really interested in and make a living from it at the same time. Keep up their own pace of life which energizes them and helps overcome laziness. Stay in touch with those who please them. Protect themselves from useless and negative information poured from sources of all kind. Maintain balance of their world with their own hand.

But it’s even more enjoyable to meet such people! It looks like they are not so few.

At her age of 26 Daria (Dariko in Georgian) has managed to build a successful career of a sports journalist in her homeland – Ukraine, to continue working in Germany and Turkey, to discover Georgia for her and, having decided that this is “the country”, to relocate here forever. And this is not an exhaustive list of her achievements! To practice yoga regularly, to get rid of 18 kg, to give up smoking, to become a vegetarian, to write a blog and to promote a web-site – could you name anyone who did not dream to realize at least a couple of items on this list?

The most important thing is to start wanting something a lot! When you’re motivated, you’ll succeed – Daria explains. You have to believe it.

“When upon arrival I did a gratuitous practical training at Georgian National Tourism Administration where I work now, there was a period of time when the savings ran out and the income was at zero. At that moment the friends helped me a lot, my skills got a proper appraisal and at the end of the practical training I was offered a part-timer job”.

And what tourists wish to see most of all?

The requests can be diverse: some are interested in wine shops and cellars; the others are keen on architecture.

In February I went sightseeing with an architect from Egypt. There was terrible wind but even it did not cool his interest in the unique buildings of Tbilisi. The pace varies too.

Today we had a couple with a seven-month old baby in a sling. They are very energetic and speedy. We climbed up all the hills, to all the viewing platforms. And the yesterday’s group from Dubai was the opposite – they were lazy to walk up to the funicular.Recently a film crew came from Israel. They shoot a documentary about national dishes of different countries and asked the Like a Local Guide to recommend an expert in restaurants. They were put through to me and 4 years later after my friends have for the first time acquainted me with traditions of the Georgian feast, l found myself educating other people on the subject!

Daria, Tbilisi is a city with an original, slow and relaxing rythm. It absorbs. It’s felt by both locals and tourists. How do you manage to stay energetic, to cope with so many miscellaneous tasks and not to be lazy?

The work starts at 9, by that time I have already been to the gym and have had breakfast. My colleagues and I have a good tradition to come earlier and to have breakfast together. During the lunch time I manage to work on the blog or the web-site. After work – yoga or a Georgian language lesson, various events. On the weekend – a tour and the same things. My schedule is busy, I feel myself active and needed.

My recipe is very simple: fitness + healthy food + the work I like = joy to wake up every morning.

And what is yours?

Yes, it’s so. You need self-control. Often my friends even take offense at me: call somewhere and I refuse because I have things to do.

I try to make an efficient use of time.

Here you can find Dariko's FB blog and her web-site.

Daria is a translator by profession, speaks four languages, studies Georgian, and writes her blog at Facebook. The blog got noticed by the Like a Local Guide project and they invited me to write about Georgia. I agreed. My passion for taking pictures of food worked in practice which is very a propos for reviews of cafes and restaurants. I do all this as a volunteer but people like my reviews, tourists write often to me and ask to be their guide and to show them Tbilisi and other tourist places, to tell the most interesting. I also write for another on-line guide.

The most important thing is to start wanting something a lot! When you’re motivated, you’ll succeed!
